In order to heighten personal effectiveness we need to first understand which areas of our performance and capabilities require improvement. This requires not only critical self-reflection but also some level of objective, external expertise. This, however, can be very difficult to obtain. Personal effectiveness is never more in the spotlight than when we find ourselves in highly demanding, time-sensitive situations. Whilst these situations may well occur frequently in our working life, it can be almost impossible to find the time to evaluate our performance after the event.
Designed for 3-4 people, 'Performing at a Higher Level' throws delegates into a high-pressure, extremely challenging situation and places an experienced Business Coach in there with you to record and observe your reactions and behaviours. Delegates are tasked with flying a plane from Manchester Airport to London Heathrow, using only the detailed instruction manuals provided. Unlike other flight simulator programmes, delegates receive no training on the operating of the simulator. Instead, following a briefing, delegates will be given two hours to study the manuals and make the critical decisions and calculations that are required for this mission. Following the preparation period, subjects will take to the controls of a £10 million flight simulator, used to train professional pilots, in an attempt to complete their mission successfully.
This task is achieveable, but requires delegates to display exceptional organisational, planning and communication skills. All delegates are held accountable for the outcome of the mission and will have to work together effectively in order to be successful. You will be joined on your flight by an experienced Boeing 737 instructor, although don't rely on their expertise, as any questions you pose to them may well be ignored!
This programme pushes delegates to their limits, creating a situation in which they must rely on one another and make critical real-time decisions. An experienced Business Coach will be with you throughout your mission, observing and recording your responses and behaviours. As part of their de-brief, delegates will received individual feedback regarding their performance on the day.
Upon arrival at the Training Centre, delegates will be met by their Business Coach and taken to the Briefing Room. Following the health and safety instructions you will then be briefed on your mission for the day.
The programme lasts approximately 5 hours, which includes 2 hours in the simulator itself. Lunch is also provided.
All delegates will receive a follow-up coaching call two weeks after their flight simulator day. In this call their Business Coach will discuss their experience, the action plans they put together, what they’ve done differently since and what they’re planning on doing differently in the future.
This Programme is for individuals or small teams (4 max.) looking for an innovative and challenging approach to their own development, with the added benefit of objective, constructive feedback and a follow-up coaching call.
